ROUTINE BOILER WATER SAMPLING AND TESTING. Boiler water is
very hot and under pressure. Caution should be exercised and appropriate safety
procedures followed when collecting samples. If the boiler water is not cooled as it is
sampled, part of the water will flash off as steam during the sampling process and the
remaining sample will not be truly representative of the boiler water. The sample could
contain a lower level of oxygen or carbon dioxide than the actual levels in the boiler
water. Values of other sample constituents would be higher because less water would
be present in the test sample due to the release of the steam. Use of the sample cooler
