5-3. TYPES OF WELLS AND CONSTRUCTION METHODS.
a. Construction Methods. Wells are constructed by a variety of methods. There is no
single optimum method; the choice depends on the purpose of the well, size, depth, formations
being drilled through, experience of local well contractors, and cost. The most common
methods of installing wells are compared in table 5-1. The performance of different drilling
methods in different formations is given in "Groundwater and Well." The most common type of
small diameter well is the driven well.
