j. Base Plate Bearing. Standard practice for the Metal Building System industry does not
require base plates to be shimmed with nonshrink grout to fill the void to assure good bearing.
This is probably a holdover from the days when most of these structures were bolted to
finished slabs or integral footings. If the standard MBMA building practice is not acceptable to
the engineer, then additional editing of the specification, or the design of a custom metal
building, is required.
